June 2016: A bill passed this session that changes the rules relative to post-retirement reemployment. The key changes are:
- Any retiree who is reemployed as a “45%er” is entitled to the same health insurance premium cost as is charged to active teachers. This had already been the rule relative to those working in a shortage area/priority school district so the bill extends it to 45%ers.
- A retiree can become reemployed and avoid any earnings limitations if they “unretire”, i.e., forfeit their retirement benefits during their period of reemployment.
The TRB will be sending out more detailed guidance on this topic in the near future but I wanted to give you a heads up about these two changes.
