How it works if you are on unpaid leave: example using 2015-16 rates

full BOE cost = $22,988  medical and dental
our share = $22,988 x 18% = $4138  divided by 12 = $345/month  taken out of 20 pays at rate of $207 per pay

  • we pay up front (by our last pay at start of June) for June, July and August

Cobra price would be $22,988/12 = $1916 per month.

Example:

  • if you were going out on child rearing leave at end of April, you would have worked 8 months under our plan.  $345 * 8 = $2760 taken out of your pay
  • That would leave 4 months under COBRA: May, June, July, Aug
  • $1916 * 4 = $7664 would be what you would owe for the 4 months
